Bay Of Plenty Halberg Day 2018

Bay Of Plenty Halberg Day 28 September 2018
After a very average week weather wise Friday 28 September dawned a beautiful day for the organizers of the Halberg Tournament at Te Puke Golf Club in the Bay of Plenty. The entries were closed off at 140 as the club house can only seat 130 golfers.
After morning tea all players teed off at 11.00 am to a shotgun start, competing for a $5,500.00 prize table donated by “Pub Charities”. Following golf a light meal was provided for all
players. The three raffles were a sell-out, plus the circle on the 2nd green, both adding a significant contribution to the funds.
The winners of the teams event on 152 points, were Sharon Widmer, Mark Widmer, Robyn Nelmes and Ross Mackie. Divisional winners – Div. 1 – Craig Joubert, Div 2 – Steve Nelmes, Ladies – Doris Mackie
I had the pleasure of playing with Bob Rosevear, Eagles Vice President, Steve McManaway, Chairman, Te Puke Golf Club and Bob Burt, club member. Steve and I let the two Bobs win the haggle as you always ‘let the visitors win’. The course was in perfect condition and the greens were fast and true.
Prior to prize giving Bob Rosevear spoke on behalf of NZ Eagles, along with Geoff Burgess from the Halberg Foundation. Steve McManaway accepted a cheque from the BOP Eagles for Te Puke Junior golf.
Successful tournaments don’t just happen. They are achieved with a Tournament Committee preparing well, so thanks to those who contributed to making it a great day.
