Canterbury Halberg Report 2021

CANTERBURY EAGLES HALBERG REPORT FOR 2021

Canterbury Eagles held their Halberg fund raising tournament  at the Waimairi Beach Golf Club on Thursday 7 October 2021.

This year, despite the Covid restrictions, we fielded 190 players between the morning and afternoon fields. Players come from far and wide including Hawarden who fielded their usual 7 teams, Cheviot, Scargill, Culverden, Amberley and Waimakariri.

A special thanks to the 4 Eagles from Mayfield who once again supported our day.

Apologies were received from our National President and Vice President but Eagles were aptly represented by Peter Brownie who spoke on their behalf.

Winners of the morning round were Bob McKinley Avondale 41 points and Michelle Fletcher Hawarden 40 points.

Afternoon winners were Nancy Yeo McLeans Island 43 points and Colin Ellison Weedons 39 points.

The winning team of the day was a Christchurch Taxi team with a combined score of 138 stableford points.

Friday 8 October 2021- Corporate Day

The corporate day was also held at Waimairi Beach Golf Club and attracted 15 Corporate teams. This number was down from 25 teams last year due to the Covid interruption and also to the fact that there were 2 other Corporate games on in Christchurch on the same day.

Once again we played an Ambrose game and this year the winning team was from Powell Fenwick. They were presented with the Eagles Corporate cup by Canterbury’s President Neil Robertson.

The Halberg Trustees provided all the prizes for both the game and the raffles.

An added attraction this year was the appearance of William Steadman who won 2 medals at the Paraolympics in Tokyo this year. William addressed the golfers and spoke of his experiences at the games and thanked the Halberg Trustees for what they do for disabled athletes.

It is expected that we should have raised about $10000 for Halberg this year.
