Otago Halberg Tournament Report
CENTRAL OTAGO HALBERG REPORT 2018
The Central Otago Halberg Disability Sport Foundation golf tournament was held on Wednesday October 10 at Arrowtown Golf Club.
The day started overcast and fine, but the weather forecasters were right for a change, as the field started the rain started getting heavier as the day progressed. As a result, it was decided to finish the tournament as a 9-hole event. Because of the forecast, our anticipated 80 plus players shrank to 47 entries. Once everyone was inside the club house the program progressed successfully as planned.
Raffles were held raising $525.00. An auction by Ray White representatives sold 7 items with some eager bidding. These were 2 golf course prizes, Jet boat rides, premium cheese packs, a caricature painting, a Milford sound cruise, a Skyline family pass and donations of $1055.00 from the Friday Lunch Club raised a total of $2435.00. The entry fee income was $470.00 plus holes sold to sponsors added a further $450.00.
In all 21 sponsors supported the event with prizes, vouchers and donations. Their names were gratefully acknowledged at the prize giving. Thanks were also given to the Arrowtown Golf Club for their support in the use of the course at no charge. Players and guests were well looked after by the catering and bar staff.
The Eagles National President Dave Howie from Hastings and his wife Jane attended, and both finished in the prize list. Dave thanked those present for the contribution they make to the Eagles Halberg golf tournaments.
Halberg Trustee Tom Pryde also attended but apologised for not playing. He gave a brief outline of the Disability Sport Foundation and the benefits these tournaments contribute over the years to help disabled young people participate in sport and active leisure.
